How famous websites making money?

i mean: the big famous websites like:facebook or yahoo youtube>>>twitter....more. how they are making money with free services? everything is free ? how they are making lots og money? thanks

here is a list of how they make money;
1.Google creates things like Google adds which they get money from.
Google also sells information to other companies.
Eg. A clothing company needs to know which types of clothes is best to make (Board shorts, Girls fashion. etc). So Google sell there information by spying on people and see which types most people want, and which type are mostly missing.
Google also creates sponsored results, this is where a website pays so that you look up some thing and their website comes as a first result.

2. Free game websites simply get money from advertising. If you go to a famous flash game website you will see advertisement everywhere.

3. Facebook advertise too, they also sell information by spying on people, and they also let people make their own programs on facebook (eg.farm ville). Farm ville make money by charging people for extra benefits. A certain amount of this money goes to the Facebook company.

4. Yahoo also sells information, Yahoo answers is a big place of where they get there information.

5.Youtube sells information and advertises other companies. They also create sponsored videos which people pay for to get to the top of a certain list.

    Facebook makes money two ways.
    1. Ad revenue from directing ads to you based on your profile and likes. These ads can be seen at the top-right of your news feed.
    2. Facebook integration with other websites. Websites pay a premium to get users' content based on usage. This is the reason why there is so much in the news right now about security on Facebook.

    Twitter makes ad revenue by putting paid tweets up at the top of search results. Google does the same thing.

    Advertising revenue and paid services - for example, buying stuff in Facebook games. Even if 5% of the users chose to buy extras or upgrade to a premium service they could make a profit - it's a marginal cost to provide the free element to the majority who don't pay.

    The same way standard television makes money: Ad revenue. The more "eyeballs" on the site, the greater the revenue.
